McDonald’s >> This is not the way to do “Charity!”

I completely believe that MINDS is a worthwhile cause to champion and that many of the kids there really need help, and any funds donated to the organisation has the potential to change many needy lives for the better.

But PLEASE, PLEASE don’t buy the McDonald’s Prosperity Meal because you want to “give generously” to MINDS, you will be only giving generously to McDonald’s profits! Only 10 cents per meal is given to MINDS. If you really want to support this worthwhile cause, forgo the entire Prosperity Meal and give that 6 dollars directly to MINDS! By all means, buy the meal if you like the burger, but do not be fooled into thinking you are doing charity just because you are buying the meal!

Honestly, I’m rather disappointed in McDonald’s for using this 10 cents per meal pledge to ask your patrons to “Please give generously and help us spread the joy of Prosperity this New Year.” If you really believe in that statement, you would be pledging all profits from the Prosperity Meal to MINDS… which I’m sure is a lot more than just 10 cents per meal.

Alethea and Ephraim, at home with their Proud Father

This Lion is proud of this Lion’s pride… my two cuties are cuter and more adorable than any other little lion cub in the world… okay I admit, I’m biased, but then again, every other proud father and mother will think in the same way!

It is easy to physically become a parent, but so much harder to learn to be a good one. Many times you feel frustrated, and even foolish, not knowing what to do and how to proceed. Over time, with much effort, we get better at it. We learn how to exercise patience, and seek to think again from the perspective of a child.

It is so wonderfully absorbing just to observe a child at work. I don’t know what it is but is just brings a smile to your face and joy to your heart. It makes you believe in everything wonderful about this world again.

These children are mine, but they do not belong to me, they have been wonderfully made by God the Creator of all things. As a parent, I am just showering my love on them, to care for them, to teach them and to prepare them to be ready to accomplish their purpose in this life, whatever that may be. They have a spiritual destiny, and God has a plan and a purpose for each of them. I must not seek to control their future and destiny. I need to let them find it for themselves.

To the teachers who gave their lives to protect the children, we salute you. You have paid the ultimate price in selfless love. We honour your courage, dignity and sacrifice.

To the children who lost their lives to such a selfish and evil act, we remember you. You are in a better place now, a place untouched by the evil of humanity, untouched by sickness, sadness, challenges and difficulties.

Lost Her Parents, but Still With So Much Love to Give

Nine year old Bao San, orphaned when her parents died in a traffic accident, one of the newest members of HoG children’s home. She is currently there with her older sister, and will soon be joined by their two brothers.

What a lovely, gentle spirit she has, with so much love to give, even though she has had to go through so much pain and heartache as a child. She was so fond of Alethea, even though Alethea was initially resistant to her gestures of affection. She persisted and gained Alethea’s trust.

Little Bao San left a big impression on me. Though she is small in physical stature, her big heartedness outshines most of us Singaporeans. Blessed are those who are poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heave belongs to them! Little Bao San, you shine with God’s love, may God bless you every step, and remember that His is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think…. He has a plan and purpose for your life! 🙂 Thank you for being God’s blessing to Alethea and me. We will keep you in our prayers always!

Return to H of G

It has been 5 years since the last I was here, and it was extremely nice to return to the H o G children’s home. Many of the faces that I remembered from then are still here, all grown up. Many have also left the home to study, or to work. I’m glad that many have stayed on to continue the good work of the home. JS the matriarch is in bad shape physically, but she still posesses an indomitable strength of spirit, insisting on still contributing to intepret for the group. They were happy to see Alethea, and asking about Mae. Alethea enjoyed herself tending after the dog, and playing with the older girls. At first she was still resistant to mixing with the local people, but after some time she got more comfortable with them. The people were extremely hospitable as always, and I sense the strong desire in many of them to give their all for the Lord. They have such a pure heart of worship, and looking into their eyes and their smiles can melt you inside. Really pray that God will lead each and every one of them into their spiritual destiny.
